Spackler XIII - The Field

Greeny – A new dad, but thinks that his golf is not appreciated, maybe it’s not, maybe he’s the Nick O’Hern of Spackler?

Merce – Chris has stopped talking about playing good golf and actually started playing some, geez what’s next?

Herb – As above, but the biggy is can he win the jacket? The weight of the jacket weighs heavily on his shoulders or is it a monkey?

Ben – Remember Joe the camera man said “can’t bowl, can’t throw”, fill in the missing word “can drive, can chip, can’t ____”

Matty – Makybe Kent might just take over from Merce in the talking about good golf stakes, seems right.

Bathwater – Has become an arrogant bore since his winning the trophy last year, culminating in racially abusing other groups at St Michaels!!!! (see blog)

Deano – This could be the year of Dean, made it through his wedding, loss of wedding ring, capsized canoe and more last year, what doesn’t kill you…!

The Super Swede’s – Johan, Martin & Mikael, lets see who’s who, a Volvo safe and reliable, Saab the car company GM don’t want or Koenigsegg super car, super fast, super expensive, will the weekends results tell us?

Elmsy – ran off with the jacket at Glenmore, no I really mean ran off, took the jacket and left without shouting a beer…….strange lad!

Paddy – the renegade, was so determined to play the last round last year that he nearly started a breakaway tour by organising his own group!

Glen – shared the spoils of the weekend away by taking apart The Vintage, wants the jacket more then anything.

The cricket fraternity – Dan, Nick & Jimmy, lets compare them to the Waugh brothers, one will go down as a great, another as elegant & stylish who should’ve scored more and the other one still trying to crack grade cricket……you mean there’s a third? Who will be, Steve, Mark & Dean?

AD – a pioneer of Spackler golf, but like all good pioneers seems to be lost in the golfing wilderness, oblivious to the fact he’s lost! What?

Angus – Herb says he’s good bloke, that raised the first flag, then said he’s member of Pennant Hills, well they let all sorts in there, my brother for one!

Coxy – a new dad, again, has come close to a win, but just can’t crack it, oh well there’s always next year?

Duncan – a Spurs fan & once missed indoor cricket to go to the movies, what else can I say.

Cr*pper – won his first time out, but since then his golf has resembled his nickname!!!

Drapper – younger sibling of Cr*pper, son of Murapper & Darapper, hopes to emulate his big bro’s first up win……..tell him he’s dreamin.

Mudge – twice a year Wakeling makes his regular early year appearance before disappearing into a waratah’s black hole, then reappears at Glenmore ever year.

Tim – no relation to the great Bozo of Many Sea Eagles fame, but can grow a moustache like no one’s business….bring it back, c’mon?

Spackler XIII reminder

Ok, it's showtime.

We need to be at Twin Creeks by midday on Sunday. No later.

If you want to hit some balls on the range get there a bit before midday as the green fee for the day includes lunch. We tee off directly after.

While we eat, we can run through a few things before play and make sure we all are sorted and ready.

Remember the lunch is part of the inclusive price. If you don’t want it you’ll still be paying for it!

I believe there is a competition running and we'll all be included in that for those with AGU handicaps.

Good luck!

Any predictions? You'll have your name up in lights next week if you pick correctly!

I'll take Chris Mercer and throw $5 in the ring. Anyone else want to pick a player and throw in $5?

DRaper claims to have Spackler 13 in the bag

This in from a now regular Spackler member, Chris Raper after his round last weekend:

After my brother, Damian, socially shot 43 points off the handicap I nominated for him, 22, at Killara yesterday he has received his new OFFICIAL handicap from Avalon this morning... it’s a Bathwater-esque handicap of 31.3!!

CRaper's brother Draper then went on to say, "I think Spackler is in the bag". no one has said this since Matty Kent out at Kooindah Waters.

Spackler golfer rattles St.Michael's

A few Spackler golfers were out at St.Michael's Golf Club during the Christmas break and one incident was worth a mention.

According to reliable sources one of the more outspoken, filterless Spackler members (also current Spackler Trophy champion) encountered a St.Michael's course marshall.

"Have you two seen a group of Asians?"

To which the Spackler golfer replied, "Why, aren't they allowed on here?".

Spackler I: Report

The inaugural Carl Spackler Invitational begun in March 2007 and featured 10 willing participants eager to get their hands on this plaid jacket for the first time. The venue was Eastlake GC and the conditions were perfect.

No excuses. It was the Callaway System which was implemented to determine the winner and after a lot of calculations, Mike McLean took out the event by 1 shot over Boxy. He also grabbed a couple of longest drive prizes as well. He hit straight when no one could and was proudly wearing the jacket home to the family later that evening.

Other highlights included Ben using his 6 iron, or was it a 4 iron for almost every shot on the day, Boxy nailing the longest drive on the 8th hole - with his second attempt and Batts thinking he could beat Greeny again. The whole day was superbly run by Aaron who had organised carts, food and drink and all were just dying to get back to the driving range for the next event.

Retro Spackler Golf

We're slowly going to revisit all the old Spackler tournaments over the course of the year. This gives us all a refresher on where the origins of this majestic club comes from and also gets the history incorporated into this new website.

We start with a look back at the very first Spackler tournament tomorrow, won unexpectedly by Mike McLean.
