Recollections of Spackler XVI

Tackling the US Open style Spackler course of Eastlake GC sends a shiver down the spines of everyone in the club. It's definitely not Deano's favourite course and now we can add a few more to the list. Getting to the turn with some sort of score is essential.

I had the honour of playing with Ben, Joe and Angus.

Joey spent a lot of time with his eye peering through his range finder igving us updates on how much closer to the hole we had advanced and Angus raised the art of making cheeky comments to a new level. He seemed to have a line that matched every situation we encountered but was left speechless when his ball ended up smack bang in the middle of a small bush. It was lying neatly in the direct centre of this circular bush. "I can play that", and he did. Completely destroying the obviously redundant piece of nature in the process.

I've played with Ben many times but he still baffled me with a line out of left field. With five holes gone and zero points on the score card, it was fair to say that Ben's game stunk. In dire need of composure and fully aware of the stench oozing from his golf game, he did what every golfer would do - ask for some deodorant. When he asked me if I had any in my bag, he'd actually accumulated a few points and only after a few moments I realised he was serious. He'd gone out to play golf without any deodorant and realised his mistake.

A future note, if Ben stinks, so does his game. Look out of he turns up smelling like roses at Riverside Oaks.
